SAFETY ACTION ITEMS

Below are the action items identified for each priority outlined in the Safety section of the Near Eastside Quality of Life Plan.

1.1: Encourage neighborhoods to form a CrimeWatch block club.

1.2: Encourage neighbors to utilize the James E Waters Jr. Mediation Center through social media and promotion at local events and neighborhood meetings.

1.3: Encourage participation in Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) Adopt-A-Block as a form of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).

1.4: Encourage and promote opportunities for officers to engage directly with the community (ex. coffee with a cop, roll calls, walks, youth activities, afterschool program engagement) to improve neighborhood relations.

1.5: Promote cross-attendance at meetings so that an increased number of neighbors attend IMPD meetings and an increased number of officers attend neighborhood meetings in order to increase the understanding of IMPD and neighborhood role in the community.

1.6: Create a joint training for community members and IMPD to engage in cultural difference training that is grounded in the history of the near Eastside.( Similar to Implicit Bias Training, Undoing Racism, etc…) & determine accountability measures for equitable law enforcement particularly around race & adolescents/juvenile youth.
