Change starts with one person… And becomes so much more.

A collaboration between IndyEast Promise Neighborhoods, Near Eastside and

Martindale Brightwood Quality of Life Plans, community-based institutions and YOU.

How does it work?

Step 1: Confirm your organization would like to participate in the program by contacting one or our team leaders listed below.

Step 2: Our team assigns 1 or 2 bordering blocks to your institution.

Step 3: You identify and recruit one resident member of the congregation per block as a “Block Captain.” The Block Captain is responsible for sharing important resources and information door-to-door.

Step 4: Your organization or institution acts as a base for block residents to gather for relevant meetings and events and helps to organize the broader Near Eastside and Martindale Brightwood neighborhoods simultaneously with other participating institutions.

What is IndyEast Promise Neighborhood?

The IndyEast Promise Neighborhood is a student-centered initiative that focuses on four stages of growth – Learn Early, Learn in School, Learn for College and Career, and Learn in Community. Our promise is that every child on the Near Eastside and in Martindale-Brightwood will be ready for college and prepared for a career.

The initiative builds on the work already being done by providing more data-driven resources for schools and partners to support family engagement and academic achievement. Led by John Boner Neighborhood Center and Edna Martin Christian Center, the initiative launched in 2023. Learn more at indyeastpromise.org
