Below is a list of frequently asked questions about the plan and neighborhood. If you don’t find the answer to your question, contact us and we’ll get the answer for you!

A quality of life plan is a collective vision for the neighborhood that is resident-driven and actionable. The plan is created to identify common goals and guidelines on the neighborhood vision for groups and individuals that want to get involved. Additionally, the plan is used to advocate for neighborhood goals with outside entities such as investors or local government.

The City of Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development recognizes community plans prepared by neighborhood groups and other community organizations that meet minimum standards for community engagement and plan content. These plans are not adopted by the city’s Metropolitan Development Commission and are not part of Indy’s official Comprehensive Plan, but because they have gone through a verified community process, can be trusted sources of neighborhood goals and aspirations.

The best way to get involved with the Quality of Life Plan is to visit an upcoming Community Action Team meeting or neighborhood summit. Community Action Teams meet every other month and neighborhood summits take place every quarter. Community Action Teams meet to discuss their action team’s current priorities and to work on moving the action items in the plan forward. The neighborhood summit provides a topical update on the work of a few Community Action Teams.

It is likely that not every action item will align with the vision of every neighbor. In the case that you do not approve of an action item, please contact us using the information on the contact page to learn more about how the action item was created. Afterwards, you should discuss the action item with the Community Action Team responsible for that plan section. If the Community Action Team is in agreement about the removal, you can then ask for a vote at the next neighborhood summit to remove the item. If the attendees at the summit approve the removal, the item will no longer be a part of the Quality of Life Plan.

*Please remember that the Quality of Life Plan was created with the input of over 1,000 neighborhood residents and almost 3,000 volunteer hours.

The first step is to meet with the relevant community action team to propose the new item. If the group supports the item, reach out to the community builder and let them know you would like to propose the action item at the next neighborhood summit. If the people at the summit approve your action item, it will be officially added as an action item.

Yes! The plan is adaptable and should reflect the interests of those involved in the neighborhood. Reach out to the community builder to talk more about your organization’s involvement in the plan.
